The Technology of Transportation In the earliest days of human existence, the need to convey products and people from point A to point B was realized. As time went by and human needs increased and became more complex, so did the forms of transportation. This blog will be dedicated to the evolution of the “Technology of Transportation”. Please feel free to embark on this fascinating journey!
Everything you need to know about the wheel and how important it has been and will continue to be

Thats really something to think about. "The wheel is probably the most important mechanical invention of all time" I would have to agree with that. There are so many things that could never have been invented if the wheel had not been invented. Way to go Caveman Carl!
ReplyDeleteThe wheel was a great invention indeed but it sure has cost me a lot of money. The roulette wheel and the wheel of chance on the boardwalk in Wildwood have almost done me in.
ReplyDeleteThe wheel is definately an important invention. There are so many thanigs that need wheels even things we dont think about need wheels, clocks and other devices have wheels inside of them to make the mechanics work. 3 cheers for the wheel.
ReplyDeleteThis article brings up two interesting points. The first point is that the history of the wheel goes that far back. I would have thought that the wheel would have been first used in transportation but as it turns out it was used to make pottery. Yes, human eventually used the wheel for transportation but it seems like the wheel almost transported us culturally as well.
ReplyDeleteThe second interesting point has to do with cultures that weren’t using the wheel. This causes me to ask, what were they doing that they didn’t come up with this idea? Were they a stationary culture that didn’t require them to move stuff around much? Did their people own so few possessions that an individual was able to carry them? And if they didn’t have the wheel, did they utilize the fulcrum and lever? How did these wheel-less societies move stuff?
I actually heard that the wheel may not have been first used as a form of transportation, but as a device for torture and execution. A prisoner would get strapped to the outside of a cylinder face out then get rolled down a rocky hill. The person would utlimatley die, but something sparked in someones head that that mechanic could be used for something more sensible.
ReplyDeleteI too feel that the wheel was an achievement we could not live without. There are so many different uses that the wheel is used for. I think about what ease it has given to some many different cultures and sciences. One of the top accomplishments of mankind.
ReplyDeletei'd say it was and always will be the greatest invention ever. nothing can or ever will top it
ReplyDeleteThe wheel was an invention that couldn't be stopped. The first time a man rolled a round object down a hill or pushed a heavy item( like a rock)he would figure out the advantages of a rounded shape. The arch years later changed the world by using the same advantages of a wheel reversed to bear large amounts of weight.
ReplyDeleteI keep going back to the idea of communication. The wheel enabled better communication among distant communities. It allowed trade between communities as well. Anytime we make it easier for humans to communicate, things happen.
ReplyDeleteTh wheel is definatly one of the most vital inventions that allow us the lifestyle that we are all so acustome to. Think about how far you commute or travle to do anything. Would your horse be able to make it?
ReplyDeleteThe wheel was definitly a great invention! We use wheels for a lot of things like a previous poster said, clocks use wheels...and of course the roulette wheel like another previous poster has said. Although why do wheels still cost so much money GEEZ!!! I just bought new tires for my truck and it cost a pretty little penny!
ReplyDeleteWhat would things be like without the wheel? We wouldn’t be able to do so many things. I also assumed, like the article said that the wheel just happened when it reached a particular level. I can’t imagine living in a time before it was developed or living once it was developed and not using it for something like some places did. The wheel was and will remain as a very fundamental invention.
ReplyDeleteI remember being in 8th grade English class and we actually talked about this invention for almost an hour. Wheels are used for almost every invention whether its directly or indirectly (as in used to create the final product). If it wasn't for the wheel, who knows where we as a society would be.
