I found some interested things on the history of ship and what kinds of ships there was a long time ago. This link gives you information and interactive tours
http://www.abc.net.au/navigators/ships/history.htm

This video that I found is really cool. It talks about how someone with power wanted ships to be floating temples.

  1. Ships are cool. Its crazy that at one time it was more convenient to travel by ship instead of land. Im really glad its not like that any more. Im glad we travel by land now the ocean scares me. Ships are still cool though

  2. I remember my grandfather building model ships that are now worth big bucks. I used to ask him questions about the ships he use to build. Since he was in the navy he always made the ships he was on sound so interesting with some crazy stories. Anyway ships are still the OP route of travel for speed to certain locations.

  3. SOmetimes I feel like it would be so much easier to get in a boat and take the delaware river to school. No traffic, no lights, no nonsense. I am extrememly glad that it is no a necessity to take a boat anywhere because I am not too fond of the water.

  4. Its interesting the different ways they utilized ships decades ago. Thinking of how they were used in exploration reminded me of how after America got its independence from England, England had to use aged ships called 'hulks' to house their criminals because they didn't have room to put them in jail! (they were use to banishing the offenders to the colonies)

  6. These poor men had to live on these boats for years. They must have been so uncomfortable. To think that that was the first means of transporting goods back and forth is amazing. Now we just think of UPS or FEDEX.. right?

  7. Ships are still the backbone of our commerce. Without the advances in hull and propellant design, our use of foreign oils would be impossible. The newer systems for ships are becoming more advance than ever before. This is just the beginning of a new era in ships.

  8. Without ships John Adams, Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson would not have been able to travel to Europe and help found our nation. There would not have been a United States because no one would have been able to come here. The shipping industry transformed the world.

  9. Traveling by ship i thin is easier than traveling by land still. You get to enjoy yourself on a cruise and they have malls in them now so your never bored. Travel by train you might get there quicker but it's so noisy and boring as hell. Besides if it wasn't for ships trading with other countries would be lot harder.

  10. Being in the Navy, I have definitely seen my share of ships. There is something great about being on the ocean that cant really be given credit in words.

  11. Ships are really cool, in my opinion. There is such a feeling of freedom when out on a ship and no land within miles.

  12. I have never been in a trip by ship. People tell me that their experience on a ship is not something you can put in words. It is totally different from a trip on a plane, train, or even a hot air balloon. Ships have really advanced them self today by having malls, restaurants, gyms, and so much more. Some people believe that it is safer to travel by ship then by air.

  13. I enjoyed reading this post. I didn't realize there were so many different ways to build a ship. However, it's good to see that ships have been upgraded safety-wise. I couldn't help but think of the Titanic when reading this.

  15. Shipping is such a vital part of our history as humans and even currently effects us socially and economically every day. Also, ships have always had some kind of artistic expression, whether it be large masts or fancy front-pieces to lead the boat.

  16. When I think of history, I automatically think of ships. This was a way to explore other lands hundreds of years ago. Now use ships to trade goods with other countries. How else could we get those products? The only other way is by airplane. Ships are used by so many important things including fisherman, military, for trade and travel.

  17. Whenever I think of ships I think of Jules Verne and the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. More specifically, I think of the "image" of the ship. It's a symbol of departure, but at the same time, a symbol of enclosure. A close friend once lived in a houseboat in L.A. I'd be lying if I said it didn't resemble Leon Phelps' houseboat from "The Ladies' Man" movie. Ships have always, to me, been about the pleasure of perfectly enclosing yourself, while at the same time having all of your favorite personal objects. It's infinite disposal and exploitation within a perfectly defined, finite space.

  18. Im not a big fan of ships. I get terrible seasickness, but I;'m amazed at the variety. Also, would I get sick on a cruise ship? Or is it big enough I wont notice?
